„IEEE Milestone” for Professor Jan Czochralski

The celebrations related to the unveiling of the "IEEE Milestone" plaque honoring the epoch-making discovery made by Professor Jan Czochralski took place last week at the Senate Hall of the Warsaw University of Technology.

Professor Jan Czochralski, called "the father of world electronics" is a special figure for the Warsaw University of Technology. This outstanding Polish scientist, chemist, metallurgist, and metallurgist in 1929 received the title of doctor honoris causa of our University. Earlier, he took the position of professor at the Faculty of Chemistry, where he created a research laboratory - the Department of Metallurgy and Metallurgy. The professor's name associated with the method of obtaining silicon monocrystals used until today and all over the world was included in the Pantheon of Inventors and Polish Discoverers, and he himself became the most frequently quoted and mentioned Polish scientist in the scientific literature.

"Milestone" awards are given for merits for the development of humanity and symbolize epoch-making discoveries in its history. Milestone's award to Professor Jan Czochralski for the "Method of extracting crystals" is an expression of the highest appreciation for his achievement. In Poland, this has only happened once. In recognition of his merits, he was awarded three Polish mathematicians from the National Cipher Bureau: Marian Rejewski, Jerzy Różycki, and Henryk Zygalski, who were the first to break the Enigma codes using a machine they constructed.

- We are proud that the 'Milestone' awarded to Professor Jan Czochralski, 'IEEE Milestone', representing the highest recognition of The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the largest international technical professional association, will commemorate achievements and contribute to the dissemination of knowledge about it outstanding inventor. Professor Jan Czochralski fully deserves to stand in an excellent series of persons honored with this prestigious distinction such as Thomas A. Edison, Guglielmo Marconi, Alexander G. Bell, and Nikola Tesla - emphasizes prof. dr hab. Eng. Jan Szmidt, Rector of the Warsaw University of Technology.

The celebrations related to the unveiling of the "IEEE Milestone" plaque honoring the epoch-making discovery made by Professor Jan Czochralski will take place on November 14, 2019, at the Senate Hall of the Warsaw University of Technology. Then they will be transferred to Kcynia - Professor's hometown and will end on November 15 this year. in Berlin.
