The Faculty of Civil Engineering was founded in 1915 being at that time one of four faculties of the University. Nowadays Faculty is one of the biggest faculties of the University educating self-reliant and creative professionals in the field of civil engineering, as well as carries out research in the scientific discipline of civil engineering.
Study programmes at the Faculty consist of essential courses (mathematics, physics, chemistry, computer science, mechanics), general subjects (foreign languages, social and humanity), field of study courses (e.g. surveying, geotechnical engineering, building materials, fundamentals of building, technology and organization of building works, transportation engineering, architecture, installations, bridges, underground structures, concrete structures, metal structures and timber structures). Classes are conducted in the form of lectures, tutorials, design projects and laboratories.
The Faculty carries out theoretical and experimental research dealing with design and construction problems, especially in the field of civil engineering materials, mechanics of materials and structures, geotechnics, building physics and energetic efficiency in buildings, transportation engineering, organization and management in construction. Research carried out at the Faculty involves cooperation with many foreign universities especially European, American and Chinese.
